Methodology
Includes ABO, Rh, and antibody screening.
Used as a basic workup for patients who are primarily going to the operating room for procedures not usually requiring transfusion.

Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Pink-top (EDTA) VACUTAINER
Specimen: 6 mL of EDTA blood
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collections Instructions: Inpatient must have a hospital wristband and Blood Bank identification band. Information must also be placed on tube.
Note: Label specimen with the patient’s full name, medical record number, phlebotomist’s initials, and date and time of draw. The initials of the second person identifying the patient must also be written on the label. The blood bank wristband number must be present on the tube (either hand write, or use one of the peel off stickers). If it is just a routine prenatal type and screen, the blood bank wristband is not required.
