Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Plasma

Container/Tube: Light green-top (lithium heparin) tube

Specimen: 1 mL of lithium heparin plasma

Transport Temperature: Ambient

Collection Instructions: Timing of specimen draw and dose administration is critical. Adhere to schedule. Notify laboratory and pharmacy of any changes. Random specimen is acceptable.

Note: 1. Specimens containing kanamycin A, kanamycin B, 3'4' dideoxy kanamycin B, and amikacin will yield falsely elevated results.

2. Indicate plasma.
3. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

 

Serum

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube

Specimen: 1 mL of serum

Transport Temperature: Ambient

Peak: 4-10 mcg/mL
