Please order Iron Panel. Iron Saturation is a calculation that requires Iron and Total Iron Binding capacity which is included in the Iron Panel

Methodology

Useful for evaluation of iron metabolism.

Iron and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) must be ordered to perform this test.

Specimen Requirements

Submit one of the following:

 

Plasma

Container/Tube: light green lithium heparin tube -Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.

Specimen: 1 mL of plasma

Transport Temperature: Ambient

Collection Instructions: Fasting (8 hour)

 

Serum

Container/Tube: plain red or gold top gel tube -Hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.

Specimen: 1 mL of serum

Transport Temperature: Ambient

Collection Instructions: Fasting (8 hour)

IRON

Males
0-24 months: 20-105 mcg/dL

2-9 years: 20-105 mcg/dL

10-18 years: 20-100 mcg/dL

>19 years: 65-175 mcg/dL

Females

0-24 months: 20-140 mcg/dL

2-9 years: 20-145 mcg/dL

10-18 years: 20-145 mcg/dL

>19 years: 50-170 mcg/dL
