Specimen Requirements
1. Place the tongue depressor in the center of 3 inch Scotch tape (using only clear tape) with the sticky side facing away from the tongue depressor.
2. Place the wrapped depressor in the perineal fold for a second so that it will pick up any pinworms that have migrated to the anus or their eggs.
3. Spread the sticky side of the Scotch® tape on a clear slide.
4. Label slide with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, and date and actual time of collection.
5. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature.
Note: The best time to collect specimen is when the patient first arises before a bowel movement or bath.
