Methodology

Useful for the diagnosis of acute hepatitis B infection. Reactive in-house testing for Hepatitis B core antibody will reflex Hepatitis B Core antibody IgM testing to our reference laboratory.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube or gold serum gel tube

Specimen: 2 mL of serum

Transport Temperature: Ambient

Reference Values

Negative (nonreactive) - Does not exclude the possibility of exposure to or early acute infection with HBV.

 

If the hepatitis B core antibody (total) is reactive, the specimen is referred to a reference laboratory for hepatitis B core antibody IgM.
