Methodology
This assay is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of acute or recent infection (usually 6 months or less) with Hepatitis A virus.
A reactive Hepatitis A antibody (total) test will reflex Hepatitis A IgM testing.

Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Plain, red-top tube, or gold serum gel tube
Specimen: 2 mL of serum
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions: Patients receiving therapy with high doses of biotin (i.e. > 5 mg/day) should wait at least 8 hours after the last biotin administration to have blood drawn.
Reference Values
Non-reactive - A non-reactive test result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to Hepatitis A virus.
Assay performance characteristics have not been established for immunocompromised or immunosuppressed patients, cord blood, neonatal specimens, infants and children. The performance of this assay has not been established for patients <18 or >101 years of age.
