Specimen Requirements

1. Submit bronchoalveolar lavage in a screw-capped, sterile container.

2. Label container with patient’s full name, date of birth, and date and time of collection.

3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Note: Specimen source and time of collection are required.

Reference Values

WBC: less than 300/μL

Macrophages: 95-96%

Lymphocytes: 3-4%

Segs: <1%
