Includes ABO grouping and Rh typing.
Used to determine the patient’s ABO blood type and the presence or absence of the Rho(D) antigen (Rh type).

Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube: Pink-top (EDTA) VACUTAINER or pink-top (EDTA) MICROTAINER (for newborns)
Specimen: 6 mL (newborns: 1 mL) of EDTA whole blood
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collections Instructions: Inpatient must have a hospital wristband and Blood Bank identification band.
Note: Label specimen with the patient’s full name, medical record number, phlebotomist’s initials, and date and time of draw. If the patient is an inpatient or emergency department patient, the initials of the second person identifying the patient must also be written on the label, as well as th blood bank wristband number (either hand write or use one of the peel off stickers).
