Specimen Requirements
1. Collect tissue in a screw-capped, sterile container.
2. Label container with source and site of specimen, patient’s name, date of collection, physician’s name, and hospital identification number and department.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly. Specimen must be hand delivered to technician in Histology.
4. Causes for rejection:
A. Inadequately labeled specimen
B. Received in formalin
C. Insufficient specimen volume
Note: 1. Specimen source is required.
2. Pink “Frozen Section” sticker must be affixed to container.
3. Specimen must be labeled properly and accompanied by a order printed from Epic.
Reference Values
An interpretive report will be provided.
Pathologist interpretation will be called by pathologist to operating room on intercom system or to minor surgery room by telephone. In special cases, pathologist will return to operating room to talk with physician.
